I was in Barcelona in the spring on a particularly bright day with blue sky showing behind some fluffy clouds. I took a long walk along La Rambla and ended up by the water. The Rambla de Mar was ahead and I continued my walk. There was a sidewalk where I saw a large sign describing the area. As I looked around there were many rows of boats in the sparkling water. It seemed to me that the water and the blue sky were exceptionally bright that day. It was a peaceful scene.
Look here for more sparkle.
I’ve been thinking about this year and all the opportunities that I’ve had to see flowers while traveling. It seems that each season features colorful and unique flowers. Here are some of my favorites from the spring, summer, fall and winter. It’s a nice way to remember the year! I’m looking forward to the year ahead with new opportunities to travel as well as time to enjoy being near home.
I’ve noticed that spring and summer flowers are both bright and dainty:

I wish you a very Happy New Year!
Now that the weather has become so pleasant I’ve started to go on walks to see the colors of the fresh new leaves on the trees and shrubs. Here I stood near a pond that provided reflections of the trees in the water.
The colors are very noticeable when you see these reflections.
With the fresh air, sunshine and the gentle sound of the water it looks like a good time for a nap.
As I begin to get settled in my new area in Virginia I decided to drive to Charlottesville last weekend for a visit. With the mountain views, impressive architecture and the bright sunshine I don’t think I could have picked a better day to enjoy the spring. I’m looking forward to returning there later this year to see how it changes from season to season.

This butterfly was moving constantly among the flowers.
Last week I was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. One afternoon I took a walk in the Great Smoky Mountains and there were many wildflowers along the trail. The whole time I could hear the sound of rushing water and the sunlight was rather pale as it filtered through the leaves on the trees. The mountain air was fresh and very fragrant. Here are some of the flowers and other sights along the path.

And the sooner, the better! Here are a few pictures from Monet’s garden in Giverny, France as a reminder that it will be spring again…
