El Yunque National Forest is a tropical rainforest in the United States, and it’s in Puerto Rico. Getting there is an easy day trip from San Juan by car. There’s a visitor center near the entrance, which is helpful because you’ll find people who can answer questions and make suggestions about how to spend your time there. It’s a good idea to bring a picnic lunch if you can because there are picnic areas with great views of the rainforest. There are some parrots at El Yunque, but unfortunately I didn’t see any while I was there.
Walking trails are located throughout the park, so sturdy shoes are helpful! Definitely go on some of these paths, because you can be walking along and come across unexpected things like waterfalls (although you can hear them before you see them).
