During my visit to Italy last May I took an afternoon walk one day in Baveno along Lake Maggiore. When I look at these pictures now I can see that it wasn’t a sunny day, but I didn’t notice it at the time. This is probably because the views of the lake and mountains were so compelling the cloudy skies didn’t matter. There weren’t too many people around that day so I could focus on the scenery. I also remember seeing the flowers beginning to bloom on the hydrangeas. Just as I thought it would be nice to have a treat I found a gelato shop. This was an important part of the walk too.
What I saw along the way.
It was a charming walk.
The first photo looks like it could be a painting. Beautiful.

I think that is the beauty of travelling — when you visit somewhere new, the weather conditions sometimes fade into the background, unless of course it is an event that impacts your ability to get around. I’m loving reading your posts, and yearn for when I can next take the long flight north from Australia. Meanwhile, I’ll be your keyboard travelling friend. :)
Best wishes from Brisbane, Australia.

Thanks – it’s great fun to travel the world by reading posts! I always hope for blue skies and sunshine when I travel but sometimes a place can be just as memorable on a cloudy day… :)

I think that gelato makes the walk even better (if that’s possible)!

I don’t think Summer starts till June in Italy, Meg :) We were there late May with a little gentle rain, but you’re right- the scenery is majestic.

When I was there I wore a jacket in the evening but during the day it was pleasant and mild. It was a wonderful time to be there!

I’d like to be there too, but the snow is melting here so hopefully that means spring will soon follow!

During my visits to Lake Maggiore it has been cloudy most of the time but I agree, It never diminishes the beauty of the area.

I recognize the lovely shores of Lake Maggiore. A few pickpockets hang about there, mind you. One of our group got done over whilst eating gelato….

Somewhere long, long ago, WP dumped you from my feed! Of all the nerve, right? I was thinking of you and decided to look you up! Good grief. You’ve been doing LOTS of walking that I missed. Well, I’m back now. And this looks like a beautiful and fabulous walk, Meg! What a gorgeous and interesting sky!
