Canyon Views and Wildflowers

This time I’m talking about Red Canyon in Utah.  I passed it on the road to Bryce Canyon and it looked so interesting I stopped there for a look around on the way back from Bryce.  Red Canyon has some moderately easy walks and hikes, so I walked on one of the shorter trails.  I liked this because I wanted to enjoy the views and take pictures without having to think about steep drop-offs!  I even saw some wildflowers along the way, which I always enjoy wherever I am.  Red Canyon had free admission and parking so I’d like to spend more time there the next time I’m in that area.

Some of the views:

And of course the flowers.

Travel theme: Fresh

I’m starting to take short trips around Virginia now that I’m getting settled here.  It has been a lovely spring and I’ve traveled from Charlottesville to Williamsburg to see lots of fresh spring scenery.  In addition to flowers I’ve been impressed by the bright blue sky, the sunshine and the different colors of green from leaves on the trees to those on shrubs and plants.  Of course there have been lots of flowers and I’ve enjoyed seeing those too.  It’s been interesting to see spring arrive this year and I’m looking forward to seeing how things might change as summer approaches.  Here are some pictures of the scenery that I’ve observed.

Looking Forward to Spring

I’ve been looking through my pictures of flowers and I can’t wait until it’s spring!  So far there have been a few warm days but it will be nice to have several days in a row of sunshine and warmer temperatures.  I’ve also noticed that the birds are more active as they cheerfully sing in the morning.  The first flowers are starting to come back, as well as the freshness of the new greenery.  I’ve also started to notice displays of brightly colored planters outside of charming shops.  Here are some pictures from a walk that I took when I visited the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee along with a nearby scenic town in North Carolina.

Spring will be especially welcome this year…

CBBH Photo Challenge: Ancient and Modern

When I was in the south of France this spring I had the opportunity to see Carcassonne.  I noticed many contrasts between the old and the new while I was there.

Sightseeing and shopping are also a good combination of ancient and modern.

A Wildflower Walk in the Mountains

Last week I was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  One afternoon I took a walk in the Great Smoky Mountains and there were many wildflowers along the trail.  The whole time I could hear the sound of rushing water and the sunlight was rather pale as it filtered through the leaves on the trees.  The mountain air was fresh and very fragrant.  Here are some of the flowers and other sights along the path.
